In cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the City is conducting environmental analysis, engineering and development of construction drawings for the New London Road and West Fairway Drive Intersection Improvement project. The purpose is to improve vehicular & pedestrian safety and traffic flow. The project includes widening New London Road on the north side where it narrows near the intersection. A left turn lane for eastbound traffic onto West Fairway Drive will be constructed. A left turn lane on New London Road will assist westbound traffic for vehicles turning left into Badin High School. New London Road will be resurfaced from Jerdan Lane to West Fairway Drive. The existing sidewalk on the north side of the road will be extended to West Fairway Drive. Curb ramps will be provided at the intersection for pedestrian accessibility. The existing crosswalk beacons on New London Road will remain.
Project construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2024 and be complete by Fall 2024. The construction cost is funded by a combination of federal, state, and local City of Hamilton funds.
The project is anticipated to require the removal of trees for the sidewalk extension and road widening near West Fairway Drive. One right-of–way acquisition, four temporary easements and one utility easement for a water main relocation were acquired by the City. No additional right-of-way or easements are anticipated. During construction, New London Road and West Fairway Drive will be subject to daily traffic lane restrictions. Two-way traffic will be maintained. Access to residences, businesses and Badin High School will be maintained.
As part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the ODOT Project Development Process, we are seeking comments about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the proposed project. Environmental impacts could include those associated with historic, archaeological, ecological, hazardous materials, residents and businesses, local economy, air quality, and general concerns for the project.
