In March 2012, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine settled with five of the nation’s largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses, fraud, and unfair and deceptive mortgage practices. Through the “Moving Ohio Forward” grant program, the Attorney General allocated a total of $75 million to all 88 counties in Ohio to facilitate the reclamation, rehabilitation, and re-utilization of vacant, abandoned, tax-foreclosed, or other real property. Butler County was awarded over $2.6 million in Moving Ohio Forward funding. Roughly $1.1 million was designated for the City of Hamilton through the Butler County Land Re-utilization Corporation (better known as the “Land Bank”), which the City matched, resulting in a total of $2.2 million.

The Land Bank provides the City an opportunity to demolish nuisance properties and to promote economic and housing development. It is an important tool to make Hamilton a more livable, more economically vibrant community.
